LET’S GIVE A SICK CHILD HOPE | PROJECT FOR HOPE
Back in 2012, when this charity was first founded, I was just a young child who had gotten used to being in and out of hospitals. I was suffering from various medical conditions that led to many dead ends filled with despair. After returning home from another one of these doctor’s appointments, I was met with the hug of a small stuffed bear. Holding this bear close, my young mind felt safe and filled with hope.
After seeing so many other children suffering in the same way I was, I felt the need to help them overcome the fear and uncertainty that came with sickness– and what better way to do that than with a hug. This is when I had an idea.
I began to ask my neighbors, friends, church, and school for help collecting stuffed animals. Together, we were able to raise a very meager amount of less than 100 bears. Once we delivered them to the local children’s hospital, the staff began to hand the stuffed animals out to the children. Many smiles and cheers of joy were heard that day as the nurses rushed to tell me how thankful the children were.
This is why, to this day, I continue this project to help bring hope and joy to people who need it. By giving a sick child a bear, I want to give them the hope that someone is rooting for them and their recovery, big or small.
Through the years, this charity has expanded to help those in nursing homes and rehab facilities. Additionally, any money received toward these donations goes toward the Khol’s Cares program. Buying a stuffed animal from this program goes straight to families in need. I do this in order to get the most good out of each donation and to ensure the money goes to good use.
